KILIMANJARO LEMOSHO ROUTE – APPROACH FROM THE WEST
A newer route on Kilimanjaro, more remote and arguably more beautiful.
We start the hike from the Londorossi Gate, we start in a beautiful rain forests and through moorlands. We head across the Shira plateau on day 2/3 to connect with the Machame route at Lava Tower. Then a small descent which takes us on to Barranco Valley via the Southern circuit.
Barranco wall is a lot of peoples most favourite part of the hike. We head up, passing the famous kissing rock, ascending up to the Karanga valley.
The terrain from here is very moonlike and desolate and quite an easy hike on to Barafu camp for the evening. After food and a little rest, we have an early 1am start to push for the summit - Uhuru Peak. The climb is difficult, steep and will test you mentally and physically. The summit will be reached after 6/7 hours and you will be greeted with the most beautiful sunrise over Africa.
This route has a higher summit success rate due to more days acclimatising to the altitude.
Finishing the trip of a lifetime with a coffee tour in the local village of Materuni along with a visit to the waterfalls, with plenty of time to browse the local market stalls and have a little dip before heading home. We offer optional EXTRAS - A 1 or a 2 day safari along with a 3 day break in Zanzibar, sampling local cuisine and some much needed relaxation in one of the most beautiful parts of the island.

Materuni Waterfalls, Coffee Tour
Materuni Village is the home of the Chagga tribe and is an authentic tribal village. A small drive from Moshi, we will leave for 8:30/9:00am.
First we visit the amazing waterfalls which does mean a small half an hour walk from the car park. The views are breath-taking and you might even get to see the summit of Kilimanjaro. The waterfalls are over 80 meters in height, with an inviting pool at the bottom where you can take a dip and cool off from the heat.
Once everyone is happy we will head for a traditional Chagga lunch in the village, along with a taste of the local banana beer. Which is a must! Some can also be purchased from the locals.
From here we will enter the coffee experience, where we learn about how coffee is cultivated, dried, roasted and further processed. You can even get in on the action and have a go grinding the coffee which is followed by traditional Chagga songs and dances. A great way to immerse yourself and witness first-hand the true local culture.
Around 16:00 the transfer will take us to the Hot Springs for a twilight experience, relaxation, and swimming. The beautiful mineral spring originated from Kilimanjaro ground. The springs are slightly covered by beautiful lush trees and the waters is crystal clear so you can see the very deep 10m bottom at all time.
